GOSPEL artiste Jahdai is determined to use music to spread the Word. For him, singing is more than "getting records out there".
"I used to listen to songs that would control my action and thinking, and realise that the music is so powerful it would take you to places you don't want to go," he told the Jamaica Observer.
According to Jahdai, there was a time when he was "burning" almost everything, from toothpaste to soap!
His mother, actress Winsome Patterson, sent him to Christian camp and although he rebelled at first, he eventually turned his back on the Rastafarian faith in 1999 and embraced Christianity.
In 2005, Jahdai (given name Brandon Samms) did his first recording, God's Army, a collaboration with Dionne Adair. That was followed by songs like The Glow, Caan Cool and I Like It.
"I want people to listen to the lyrical content of the music and hear the gospel of Jesus. The music is positive and uplifting to the soul," he reasoned. "It is set out to fulfil Isaiah 61, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour."
Jahdai is working on his debut album, which is expected to be completed in early 2013.
JAHDAI… I want people to listen to the lyrical content of the music and hear the gospel of Jesus
