AROUND this time for the past 14 years, disc jockey GT Taylor steps up preparation for his Christmas Extravaganza show.

The event takes place on Christmas Day at Independence Park in Black River, St Elizabeth, Taylor’s home parish.

Once again, Christmas Extravaganza will benefit the St Elizabeth Care Committee, an organisation that helps care for the parish’s indigent.

While he is not pleased with the level of corporate support, Taylor is proud the show continues to grow outside parish boundaries.

“It has grown significantly! To see the people coming from all over the world to this event and the parish of St Elizabeth benefiting is a great thing,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

This year, Christmas Extravganza is held under the theme, Still Rules, and has attracted 29 acts including dancehall kingpins Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Sizzla and Yellowman. Romain Virgo, Khago and Aidonia represent the genre’s new wave while John Holt brings the rocksteady vibe.

Taylor is a mainstay of the all-reggae Irie FM radio station which helped introduce dancehall music to the mainstream in the 1990s.

He hosts the In The Dancehall and The Record Marketplace shows which air Thursdays and Fridays respectively, on Irie.
