Curvy Diva on track
IN two weeks, television personality Yanique "Curvy Diva" Barrett will be embarking on her musical journey with the single Lifestyle.
The fledging singjay spoke to Jamaica Observer about her debut project.
"As the name suggests, it’s about me and my lifestyle, how I’m living and not allowing certain situations to affect me," she said. "Over the years, I’ve faced so many situations and challenges and they have all made me stronger and more determined to succeed, so I want to share that message with others so they can also be inspired."
Slated to be released on April 5, Lifestyle will be on the Good Good Production imprint. A music video is also in the works.
Barrett is the host of the talent show Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, which is now in its 10th season.
Asked to describe her style, she said she doesn’t like being stereotyped.
"Styles vary and are ever changing. I’m a trendsetter so I don’t plan to put that in a box at all. anything is possible when I get inspired," she said.
Barrett, who will be using the moniker Curvy Diva, said she always been interested in doing music.
"It’s been a long time coming, as there had been an interest for a while. I just wanted to wait on the right timing," she told Observer. "Music makes me happy, it’s something I’m passionate about. I was excited when Good Good Production approached me with this opportunity."
Good Good Production principal Evan "Zum" Powell explained why he approached Barrett.
"Many artistes have been interested in working with us over the years, but we never decided to go full sail until now. We think Curvy Diva already has the dancehall image and influence and so we were excited to be a part of her artiste transition from the ground floor," he said.
According to Barrett, she will be immersing herself in music.
"Anything I do, I give a 100 per cent and being an artiste will be no different. I can’t wait to take my fans on this amazing journey," she said.
