Bachannal Ja kicks off 2012 season

CARNIVAL organisers Bachannal Jamaica officially kicked off its 2012 season at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston last Friday.

The event saw the plans, the costumes and Mas Camp's new home for being unveiled to the media, sponsors and specially-invited guests.

This year's theme, according to the evening's MC Sara Lawrence, is Future Shock.

"Theme reflects the goals of always blending Jamaica's culture with the free and uplifting spirits that carnival creates," she said.

The new home for Mas Camp is located at Stadium North on the National Stadium Complex in St Andrew.

According to the organisers' release, the new Mas Camp will come with familiar settings in along with added features for more comfort. Included in the new settings are an increased in secured parking lots, sky boxes and a VIP package comprising of an assigned entrance and bathroom facilities.

Renee Hartley, public relations officer for Bacchanal Jamaica, said the new venue increases the organisers ability to cater to the increasing number of Jamaicans and visitors who make carnival celebrations "a must" on their social calendar.

Events commence with the 'Bachannal Fridays' on February 24 and 'socacise' on February 27. On April 7, the revellers will travel to James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, St Mary for Bacchanal Beach Jouvert. The season comes to a climax with the road march on Sunday, April 15.

Revellers will have the option of choosing from nine electrifying costumes courtesy of sponsors — Jamaica Observer, Digicel, Pure Country, RJR Communications Group, Appleton and Ammar's.
