Right-wing extremists plunging the world into chaos

Dear Editor,

Over the past three years we have seen the coming to power of right-wing extremists throughout the world, like Donald Trump (US), Jair Bolsonaro (Brazil), Ivan Duque (Colombia), Rodrigo Duterte (Philippines) and Benjamin Netanyahu (Israel). The common denominator is that they all run roughshod over people's rights, laws (domestic and international, and constitutions, either because they don't know or don't care. They bully their way around the world, with most of Europe in tow, and with the condonation of those who know better, like the press and the left who are bought off in return for their silence.

Today there are hot spots in such places as the South China Sea, with brewing hostilities between the US and China, the US-backed attempted coup in Venezuela coupled with threats of regime change in Cuba and Nicaragua, and the build-up of military forces by the US off the Iranian coast.

They are war hawks who prefer war to diplomacy just like the bad old days of fascism, and it is only a matter of time before they plunge us into some sort of Armageddon, most likely before Trump's second election.

The old saying is that a two-term presidency needs a war. George W Bush and Barack Obama had the Iraq war, Richard Nixon had Vietnam, Dwight Eisenhower had Korea, and Ronald Reagan had Central America. Which will Trump have?
