Dear Editor,

The People's National Party (PNP) needs to rein in Krystal Tomlinson, sitting president of its youth organisation, as she has now shown that she may become a liability in its quest to once again lead Jamaica's Government.

Likening the prime minister to Adolf Hitler is the lowest one could go with being politically naive and disrespectful.

Hitler came to power in 1929 and was appointed chancellor in January 1933. His rise to power was the result of many factors: the impact of the depression, the weaknesses of Weimar democracy, and the strengths of the Nazi party.

If Krystal Tomlinson want to find a perfect comparison to Adolf Hitler she may want to look no further than in her party's history.

In 1972, after taking control of the Government of Jamaica, the PNP ran the Jamaican economy to a wreck using similar policies pursued by Hitler.

In 1976 the wanton persecution of the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party and its operatives, using the declaration of a national state of public emergency, was a move straight from the book of Nazi Germany. A kind of 'cleansing'.

Does the JLP remember “five flights a day”? That move then sounded more like one Hitler would try.

So, if Krystal Tomlinson is in search of someone to compare to Hitler she needs to look no further than the PNP.

Sometime in 1975 to 1976 the PNP led a team to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), where the then minister of foreign affairs reportedly offered up Jamaica to the Russians, telling them that Jamaica will be the next communist island in the Caribbean. The training of over 1,600 Jamaicans to use high-powered weapons in Cuba on the brigadesta programme could be blamed for the terror unleashed, as in my opinion it started the country's love for guns.

One could easily make connections to Hitler from acts carried out by the PNP but it would be disrespectful.

I do believe what Tomlinson has done requires her to tender her resignation as president of the PNP Youth Organisation.
