Dear Editor,

Letter writer Watcher on the Wall has raised some concerns about Fayval Williams' chances in St Andrew Eastern in the next general election. Allow me to quickly point out the following:

In the last three elections the number of people not participating in the process was 7,000, 10,000, and in 2016 it was 12,000. This needs to be investigated.

In each constituency there are councillors. What are they doing? Yes, Fayval Williams is busy, but a plan needs to be devised as to how these non-participants are to be attracted to the process. I would start with a demographic profile that would reveal their needs and work with the relevant agencies to supply them. At that stage, the councillors would need to get busy and work with the people.

The Member of Parliament will not be available for much except strategy meetings. That's just how it works.
