Questions the voters in North Trelawny need to ask
Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Dear Editor,
We are all very excited because Christmas is upon us, the election is around the corner and Jamaica will celebrate 50 years of so-called independence eight-and-a-half months from now.
Yes, those are things that tickle our fancy. For example, Christmas is about togetherness, sharing and caring; election is for voting in the right people to do the job so that Jamaica and its people can move forward as one; and celebrating our so-called independence was always fun and joyous.
The Sunday Observer carried a very interesting article, 'Meadows on a high', written by HG Helps.
Mr Meadows, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for North Trelawny, is a good friend of mine. We all know that Falmouth or North Trelawny is a so-called People's National Party (PNP) area and this is largely why Falmouth and its surroundings are lacking development.
The PNP spent 18 years in power and Falmouth has little to show for its loyalty to the PNP. It doesn't take a man like Albert Einstein to figure out why Falmouth was treated so badly by the PNP.

I do want to agree with Meadows when he said that he fancies his chance of winning the next election. While I would like that to happen, the honest truth is that it might not happen. If you put a dead Michael Manley's name on the voting ballot in Northern Trelawny against Meadows, he might still lose the race.
Is it because Meadows is so bad why a dead PNP candidate would pip him at the line? The reason that a dead PNP candidate would beat Meadows is that the people of Northern Trelawny are still voting with their heads buried. Why someone would want to vote for a person living 100 miles from their troubles is beyond me.
The PNP knows that it can send any Tom, Dick or Harry to run and the people would still vote PNP. Portia Simpson Miller knows the people of Northern Trelawny don't vote on the issues affecting their lives.
The country will only move forward when people start to vote on the issues instead of voting for the brightly coloured shirts that were given to them. The people of Northern Trelawny need proper representation to improve their lives. What the voters need to ask themselves is: Can Patrick Atkinson stay in Kingston and represent our interest? Will Meadows, who is driving and walking on the same potholes like us, represent us better? Isn't it time we vote as Jamaicans instead of voting as JLPNP? What are our reasons for voting in this election? Is it really true that Northern Trelawny couldn't produce two people residing in the constituency to run against each other?
