Brick Oven set to close its shutters

Friday, August 11, 2017

The Brick Oven restaurant and bakery, well known for its range of premium patties, such as its triangular curry chicken patty, will close next Monday after some 29 years in business.

The restaurant, which used to be situated at the heavily trafficked Devon House in Kingston, had changed address in recent years to a less busy, stand-alone location on Hope Road across from the entrance to King's House. Its position at Devon House was taken over by a similar restaurant and bakery called Devon House Bakery, operated by the local Mother's fast food chain.

The location had originally been a kitchen for the luxurious Devon House manor, complete with an original brick oven, and was known not just for its patties, but also its pastries and cakes. It kept its links with its original location by also selling the popular Devon House Ice Cream brand.

In a note to customers the restaurant said, “To our loved and loyal customers: After 29 years it is with a heavy heart we advise that we will be turning off our ovens and closing our doors on Monday, August 14, 2017.

“We thank you for your loyalty and patronage over the years. It has truly been a pleasure making something which matters to us, matters to others.

“We hope our paths may cross again in the future. Until then... Walk good.”
