The Electrogen, a rear-view glance

(Italic)The following is some feedback to our lead story Fast & Fumeless about Montegonian Paul Hurlock's creation, the Electrogen.

I'm excited

Okay. I'm really excited about your green car. That's like everyones' dream car — fast, sexy, road-beast and expensive too (over a million dollars — cool).

You should bring it to the annual Denbigh Agricultural show this year, 2012. However, I agree that to lobby for support of car manufacturers in Asia to produce it in bulk is a really brilliant idea. Be aware of persons who will steal your concept and make billions. This should empower our Minister of Technology to start a car manufacturing in Jamaica.

Serious piece of ingenuity

Mr Hurlock, congratulations on your project.

It is a serious piece of ingenuity that has a lot of potential. Nobody has a product that has the capability of yours at the moment. My advice to you is to lock it down, get a lawyer and start the patent application immediately. Don't let any tourist or local people view your creation.

Failure to do so will see it copied and neither you nor Jamaica will benefit from this work. It will be owned by First World countries and they will reap immense rewards.

Innovative

A very innovative idea, skilfully developed into a realistic motor-vehicle by obviously very, very talented locals.

We all hope to see more of this. However, the Electrogen is not as unique, or cutting-edge as it may seem, as there's a North American company called Tesla Motors, which has designed and manufactured a 100 per cent electric vehicles with a phenomenal 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.7 seconds, and capable of travelling 245 miles per charge, generating 288 horsepower.

Excellent work. I wonder if you living in the US, what impact you would have had on the society and what your fortunes might have been?

You should consider talking with the government research unit and working with Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) to establish a private placement. You should then establish contact with product development corporations in the US, China, Japan and South Korea, but get yourself a good patent attorney first. It appears that your product has some good concepts. Good luck.
