DAVID Summerbell Jr is optimistic about his chances in this Sunday's Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) finale in South Dakota, Guyana.

"I've got a pretty good points cushion, and just one race win will put everyone else out of touch of the 2012 title. One of my goals is to set a new track record," he told Auto.

Summerbell is in contention for the CMRC Driver's Champion title with 50 points, while Jamaica is leading in country standings points with 113.

The TOTAL Summerbell Racing's (TSR) lead driver suffered gearbox issues at Dover Raceway in St Ann at the Heroes' Day meet which eventually cost him the Jamaica Race Drivers Club championship title.

His Lancer Evolution VIII was shipped to Guyana and his team of mechanics started repairs yesterday.

"It is ultimately in the hands of the mechanics. If they can repair the car properly, I'm confident I'll win," he said. "I have to thank my sponsors TOTAL and Victoria Mutual Building Society for allowing it to be sent ahead of time."

Summerbell left the island yesterday.

Sebastien Rae, Dover Raceway's 2012 champion driver, will be looking to add more trophies to his collection.

He said he has been doing his research as it is his first time in Guyana.

"I've been watching videos of the circuit online in preparation. So, I hope to bring home the title for Jamaica and myself," he said.

Heading to Guyana on a high note is Peter Rae.

"I've never won the CMRC title before, so who knows what will happen once we hit the track?"

Both Raes confirmed their cars were in tip-top condition.

Anderson, part of the TSR team, suffered mechanical problems to his Mitsubishi Colt at the recent Dover Raceway Heroes Day meet in St Ann. He said the vehicle would not have been ready in time for the trip.

"I'm disappointed," Anderson told Auto. "The car suffered some problems at Dover which couldn't be solved in time to meet the shipping deadline."
