MSC McKay using technology for more efficient service

CORPORATE Area-headquartered valuators MSC McKay Jamaica Limited is using technology to make the valuation process quicker, easier, and practical for their customers.

A valuation determines the present value of an asset.

"MSC McKay valuators save time inspecting vehicles with the use of tablet computers during valuations, eliminating the redundancy of writing down the vehicle details and then typing a report. We offer clients the opportunity to get their valuation reports online shortly after the inspection process is carried out," said David McKay, managing director of MSC McKay.

According to McKay, the vehicle’s information is entered into their cloud-based system as it is received. This information goes directly to the company’s database, which is accessible by all MSC branches. The completed report can either be retrieved online (where it remains accessible in the future) or e-mailed to the client.

"We are the first valuation company in Jamaica to use a cloud-based online system. Our six branches are interconnected online, allowing consistency in reporting. This cloud-based system helps to prevent instances where valuation reports are fraudulently altered and presented to financial institutions or insurance companies to conduct business," he said.

McKay explains that the Jamaican automobile market comprises vehicles manufactured for various markets around the world. Doing a valuation on a vehicle is important not just for insurance purposes, but also to verify the legitimacy of the vehicle and confirm the correct model year.

The vehicle may have appreciated or depreciated in value due to various factors affecting the market, such as changes in import duty rates or the devaluation of the Jamaican dollar.

"Being informed of the correct market value helps to ensure that your insurance coverage is adequate and prevents conflict should a claim situation arise," said McKay.

"MSC McKay has been doing valuations and damage assessments since 1986. Our reports are very detailed and we have invested heavily in technology to make the entire process easier for all our customers," the managing director said.

MSC McKay recently launched their Concierge Valuation Service that allows clients to book inspection appointments and pay for the service online. The valuator will visit the client at home or at office at the appointed time to carry out the inspection. The report can then be accessed online or received by e-mail, eliminating the hassle of driving to a valuators office location and waiting in line for an inspection.

"The Concierge Valuation service is currently offered in Kingston and will be expanded to all other branch locations in the near future," informed McKay.

MSC McKay also does valuation and damage assessments on marine and heavy-duty equipment, as well as vehicle mechanical inspection reports.

With its head office on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston, MSC McKay has branches in Portmore, Ocho Rios, May Pen, Mandeville, and Montego Bay.
