QUICK and nimble is how Jordan Powell, 2012 Dexterity Front Wheel Drive champion, describes the Volkswagen Polo he drove to beat his competitors in two meets, some of whom were driving race cars.

Powell received the award from the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC) last Saturday.

In February 2012, exclusive Volkswagen dealer ATL Automotive decided to pair the superbly powerful hatchback straight from the showroom with Powell's excellent stunt driving skills for the dexterity meet at its Bogue City Centre location. What a twist of fate it would be as Powell was meeting the Polo on an obstacle course for the first time. When the dust settled, Powell and the Polo had copped first place in the Front Wheel Drive class and second place overall, clocking the second fastest time of the meet in 37.75 seconds.

"I never had a chance to test it prior to the meet and I was extremely impressed by the way it handled. Even my competitors pointed out that it surprised them. It is awesome in terms of power, braking, cornering and it responds to the driver very quickly, which gave me an advantage in handling it," he said.

Powell's next date with the Polo occurred at the Slide Life meet in August at the same location. Once again, the duo reigned supreme winning the Front Wheel Drive class in 1:31:31 seconds and placing second overall on the wet and slippery course.

Although the Polo only appeared in two of the six meets held during the year, those two victories were enough to crown Powell the overall Champion based on his final tally. Powell was given the edge over his competitor Courtney Wilson, who drove the Mistubishi ASX in three events and tied with 260 points because he had won more events. Damien Francis took third place with 220 points, while Clasford Woolery placed fourth with 190 points.

Powell's two-time win in the FWD class and overall second-place spots also earned him third placed in the series. The Polo boasts the distinction of being the only street car in the top three. An elated Powell is looking forward to more drifting and spinning in 2013.

"I'm awaiting the racing calendar and as long as ATL wants me to drive that Polo again, I'm ready. It's a very good car," he said.
