Red Bull 'Charging' Up The Vibes

WHEN Red Bull Jamaica wants to get their party started right, they roll out the RBE1, affectionately called Chargie.

“Every time people see it, they think it's an armoured transport or the Batmobile. It certainly has a big wow factor on the road or wherever it shows up,” Ockero Maddo, Red Bull event car driver, told the Jamaica Observer's Auto magazine.

It's not hard to see why, as the RBE1 sports custom bodywork developed and trademarked by Red Bull. Its sleek, angular design combined with the black colour and signature Red Bull graphics give it an aggressive vibe. That is, however, far from the truth as Chargie is built for one thing and one thing only, to be the life of the party.

“It's created to go out and build love for the Red Bull brand,” Maddo said.
In a matter of minutes the RBE1 can deploy its plethora of party tricks. From a small hatch on the right side, Maddo can enter and raise the roof, literally. Via a bunch of controls, the back opens out to reveal a two-man mobile DJ booth run by a Pioneer DDJ-SZ2 state-of-the-art DJ board. From there, Chargie can pump out everyone's favourite tunes through an all-JBL sound system. Total system power is a proprietary secret, but with four 12-inch speakers and three 15-inch subwoofers — two of which are portable — there's little question the RBE1 won't be heard.

“Jamaica was one of the first countries to get it,” he explained.

It only gets better from there. The vehicle has its own lighting system and four televisions. On a swing arm next to the DJ booth are the two largest ones, while two smaller units reside in the front and rear. They can show the same or independent content. Besides pumping up the visuals, they're also connected to the two video game consoles, an XBOX One S and a Playstation 4, for maximum interaction.

For the RBE1, the party can go all night long. Underneath the bodywork is the chassis of a 2016 Land Rover Defender complete with its own generator to power the vehicle. Motivating the RBE1 is a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel motor with a six-speed transmission driving all four wheels. The stock wheel package has been upgraded to 16-inch and 265/75/16 off-road tyres. A raised ride height over factory also helps with all terrain capacity.

“We tend to use it in the more urban events we're part of,” Maddo added.
Started in Austria in 1987, Red Bull is an energy drink. It has the highest market share of any energy drink in the world, with 6.302 billion cans sold in a year (as of 2017).
