Commonwealth Games: Historic gold for Jamaica in women's steeplechase

GOLD COAST, Australia — Jamaica's Aisha Praught earlier today stunned 2015 World Under-18 and 2016 World Under-20 champion Celliphine Chespol of Kenya to win the 3,000m gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia

Praught steamed away at the final water jump before blazing the track to win a historic gold for Jamaica in a time of 9:21.00.

Chespol managed to take silver, clocking 9:22.61 while compatriot and defending champion Purity Kirui was third in 9:25.74.

This is Jamaica's first gold medal in steeplechase at a major event.
