Diabetes mellitus is a medical condition in which the body is unable to control its blood sugar levels. This usually results in high blood sugar. Diabetes mellitus is caused when the pancreas does not produce insulin, or the insulin produced is ineffective. This condition is usually referred to as type 1 or 2 based on whether insulin is produced or the insulin produced is ineffective.Metformin is an oral medication which is used to improve blood sugar levels in persons with type 2 diabetes. If your blood sugar levels are unstable while you are on Metformin, this is not good. Both low and high blood sugar levels are definitely not good for you. Therefore, you will have to get your blood sugar levels under control in short order.You will have to find a way to balance your diet, your exercise, and your medication. I am going to be very honest with you: The best way to deal with diabetes is to adopt a healthy lifestyle change.If carbohydrates are reduced in your diet, then immediately the blood sugar levels will lessen, and you will need a lower dose of Metformin. Also, if you incorporate exercise into your programme, this will help to keep the sugar levels under control. In fact, exercise/activity functions like Metformin.I am quite aware that for persons with diabetes, there is usually a craving for carbohydrates as well as the inability to taste sweetness properly. Therefore, your diet should consist of more fruits, vegetables, vegetable juices, vegetable salads, whole grain soups, etc, instead of pastries, bread, biscuits, pasta, fried foods, white rice, flour, etc. It makes no sense to eat badly and then try to correct it with a high dose of Metformin. In your case, you should have at least four to five small meals per day, instead of one large meal. However, try and make the small meals as healthy as possible. Having smaller meals would allow sugar to be released more slowly into the bloodstream rather than being loaded from one meal, especially if it is loaded with processed carbohydrates such as white rice, flour, etc. In addition, try not to eat meals with heavy carbohydrates late at nights. This could cause the blood sugar levels to be too high in the morning.It is very important for you to monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis. If you check your blood sugar in the morning and it's high, then you should do some exercises before having your breakfast. In a nutshell, I am suggesting that people with diabetes or those who don't want to get it should maintain a healthy lifestyle with exercise and a healthy diet. However, in your case, once you have adjusted your diet and exercise, you will also need to adjust your medication.Good luck!
