I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and I am taking medication to help with my tremors. I do exercise every day so I don't get stiff on my right side. Every day is a battle for me and I am trying to lose my fat all over to help with my lower back as well. I am on government assistance and have a very tight budget. I need to know what types of foods to eat at the right time to help me achieve my goals. I am 50 years old and I'm doing this for health reasons. My dad had Parkinson's too, but he died of a cancer that attacked the front part of his brain. He was only 69 years old. My mom and her side of the family are all battling diabetes, and I am trying to eat right and healthy. Can you help me, please?
Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system which generally affects movement. This disease usually develops gradually with a slight tremor in one hand. In addition, the disease may also cause stiffness or slowing of movement in the limbs. The symptoms worsen as the condition progresses over time. It should be noted that Parkinson's disease cannot be cured, but medication and change in lifestyle may significantly improve the symptoms. Risk factors for Parkinson's disease include age, hereditary factors, gender and exposure to toxins. Parkinson's disease usually starts in the older years. In addition, having a close relative with Parkinson's disease increases the risk. Also, men are more likely to get this disease than women.
Changes in lifestyle may help the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. You say that you would like to lose some weight. This would definitely help you with your back and your joint pains. I'm only sorry that you did not tell me your present weight and height, or even what your diet looks like. However, in general, in order to lose weight you will have to reduce your calorie intake and increase your activity level. At the same time I would suggest that you eat healthy in order to reduce your symptoms.
A balanced diet providing omega-3 fatty acids could be very helpful. Mindful of your tight budget, I would suggest that you consume more fruits, vegetables, vegetable juices, fish, peas and beans, ground provisions and whole grains. The overall calorie intake will have to be reduced so that the body is forced to use up some of the reserved fat.
However, in your case you may need a professional to help you work out a meal plan to balance your food intake with your medications. In addition, if possible, you should try and do a little more exercise than what you are presently doing.
